The PTSA at McNicholas High School strives to make each school year one of opportunity and enrichment to the school community and all of its members. The goals as outline in the by-laws direct the group's actions:
- To promote the well-being of the students.
- To advance the interests of a "Christ-centered" educational environment.
- To continually foster a spirit of communication and cooperation among all invested parties.
- To encourage active participation in school affairs, programs, and events.
- To provide financial support to the school through fundraising that benefits the whole school.

PTSA is involved in producing or supporting the following events. We look forward to seeing you soon as a guest or volunteer:
Meet the Teacher
On Meet the Teacher night, parents are invited to school and walk through their student’s schedule. Parents are able to meet teachers and hear brief descriptions of their students' classroom expectations. This is also a time to meet classmates' parents as well as counselors and administrators. PTSA greets parents and introduces its activities to families as they come into the school. To volunteer to staff the table, contact any board member.
This school-sponsored fundraiser benefits McNick as well as Catholic Inner City Schools. Volunteers are needed to man checkpoints along walk route in the Mount Washington area. To volunteer, contact Gwen Farwick.
Doughnuts with the Principal
This quarterly activity is a fun morning for all students where they have an opportunity to share doughnuts and a little conversation with our principal. To volunteer to set up, pick up donuts, and clean up after the event, contact Shelva Jacobs.
New Student Open House
On this day, prospective students and their parents (eighth graders and new upperclassmen) tour the school facilities, learn about extra-curricular activities and have an opportunity to meet with students and staff. Assistance is needed as delegated by staff as well as manning a table of refreshments outside the large gym.
Daughters and mothers are invited to spend an evening together, enjoying desserts and perhaps listen to a speaker, play a game or share an activity. Volunteers are needed to help with mailing invitations prior to the event. On the day of the event, volunteers are needed to set up, to assist serving, and to clean up.
All McNicholas daughters are invited to bring their fathers to an evening fun, food, and, music. Volunteers are needed to help with mailing invitations and to solicit door prizes. The night of the event volunteers are needed to check in daughters and dads and to assure the facility is ready for the event.
Sons may spend a morning sharing breakfast with their fathers and listening to a speaker. Volunteers are needed to help with mailing invitations prior to the event. On the day of the breakfast, volunteers are needed to set up, to assist serving breakfast, and to clean up.
All McNicholas sons are invited to bring their moms to a wonderful, catered dinner followed by music, dancing, and fun. Volunteers are needed to help with mailing invitations prior to the event. The night of the event volunteers are needed to check mothers and sons in and to assure the facility is ready for the event.
Faculty Appreciation Breakfast
PTSA sponsors a breakfast for the faculty and staff. Volunteers are needed to pick up food, to set up, and to clean up afterwards. This is a great chance to meet teachers and staff.
An evening of fun to support PTSA – join in to create your own masterpiece! Starting with a blank canvas, a few paint choices, and step by step instructions, you’ll go home with your own Van Gogh, Picasso, Rembrandt, or even a Monet, after enjoying an evening with fellow ‘artistes’. Appetizers and adult beverages included.
After Prom is the largest PTSA sponsored event of the year. Many volunteers are needed to help transform the school into various themes through decorating, to solicit prizes and sponsors, to chaperone this all-night event which takes place at school “after prom,” and to clean up the next day. Planning begins early in the school year; much of the work is done in the spring closer to the event date.
Faculty Appreciation Luncheon
On the last day of school, PTSA provides a well-deserved, thank-you lunch to our McNicholas faculty and staff. Volunteers are needed to provide lunch items such as casseroles, side dishes, desserts, and breads as well to set up and clean up.
