Virtual galleries showcase student artwork from inspiration to completion

Virtual galleries showcase student artwork from inspiration to completion

COVID may have put a stop to our traditional annual Art Show, but it has not limited the creativity, productivity, or talent of our Rocket artists! Visit the McNicholas Virtual Art Galleries to view our ceramics and architecture students’ project portfolios. From bridges to bowls to McNicholas-themed mosaic picnic tables, these digital portfolios allow a peek into the artists’ process, from inspiration to finished pieces.

Ms. Mel Gaskins, Art Department Chair and recipient of the Scholastic Educators Art Award for her “dedication, commitment, and guidance” as an art educator, turned to digital sketchbooks as a way of collecting work in the midst of a pandemic. “I originally was using it to help me see their sketchbooks,” Ms. Gaskins said, “but it became a great tool for a digital portfolio and a way for students to share their personal published link with a boss, friend, grandparent, anyone!”

And now Ms. Gaskins is pleased to share her students’ links as a Virtual Art Show. “Despite all of the challenges this year, the art students continued to shine, producing wonderful and creative pieces. Their achievements have been immense and I am incredibly proud of each and every one of them,” Ms. Gaskins said.
