Top scorer on government test wins State Award and trip to D.C.

Top scorer on government test wins State Award and trip to D.C.

Congratulations to senior Conner Dute whose achievement on the American Legion Americanism and Government Test has earned him the State Award and an all-expense-paid trip to Gettysburg, Pennsylvania and Washington, D.C.

Conner earned the highest senior score in District 4 on the American Legion Americanism and Government Test. District 4 includes Hamilton, Butler, Warren, Clinton, Clermont, and Brown counties. His test and essay were then submitted to the State competition.

On average, over 65,000 students participate in the American Legion test program annually. Conner is one of 18 selected for the trip.

“Conner is highly motivated and always engaged and willing to provide his take on topics discussed in government class,” social studies teacher Mr. Randy Royal said. “I think his interest in government is a manifestation of his desire to serve the community.  From his involvement as a Cadet Firefighter with the Milford Fire Department to his enlistment in the National Guard, Conner is a model student and citizen.”

Juniors Augustus Block and Laura Horne were recognized at the county level, earning the top score for a junior boy and top score for a junior girl, respectively.

Mr. Glenn Johnson of American Legion Post 484 presented Conner with his District 4 award.
