Student athletes commit to collegiate athletic programs

Congratulations to all our student athletes who participated in Signing Days throughout the 2023-24 school year to celebrate their intent to continue their athletic careers at the collegiate level. 

Bryce Dillard

Bryce Dillard signed to play volleyball at Rockhurst University. As a Rocket, Bryce has been a member of the varsity volleyball team for three years. He was voted Most Improved player in 2022 as a sophomore and became a 2023 2nd Team All-GCL honoree and an All-Regional Honorable Mention as a junior. He also helped our boys volleyball program to their first ever OHSAA Regional Championship and State Final Four appearance. He has also played club volleyball for Ohio Premier and currently is on the Cincinnati Attack.  

Ellie Monahan

Ellie Monahan signed to compete as a gymnast for Pennsylvania State University where she plans to study Kinesiology. She currently competes for the Cincinnati Gymnastics Academy where she is a three-time national qualifier. She placed 5th in the all-around last year at the National championship, is a two-time Regional champion, has had three top 3 State finishes, and holds the Cincinnati Gymnastics Academy level ten record of a 9.925 on bars. She is also currently ranked amongst the top 30 gymnasts in the nation.  

Gavin Murray

Gavin Murray signed to play soccer at Wilmington College. The Quakers are a NCAA Division III affiliate and members of the Ohio Athletic Conference. Gavin has been a member of the varsity soccer team at McNicholas for four years. He helped lead the Rockets to 24 wins, six tournament victories, and a District championship. He holds the school record in assists at 29 and has scored 16 career goals. He was voted Best Offensive Player during his junior season and earned two Second Team All-League honors and a First Team All-League recognition. In his three most recent seasons, he was named All-City. Outside of McNicholas athletics, he also plays club soccer for Ohio Galaxies E64.  

Kyle Naumann

Kyle Naumann signed to play football at Marian University. The Knights are a NAIA affiliate and members of the Mid-States Football Association. Kyle has been a member of the McNicholas football program for four years and has been playing the sport since he was five years old. As a Rocket, he was primarily a slot receiver and a kick returner. In his senior season, he led the GCL-Coed with 24 yards per catch and led the team with nine touchdown receptions finishing 2nd in the league and 5th best in program history for a single season. He was also awarded 2nd All-GCL League honors for his performance this season.    

Cassidy Rivas

Cassidy Rivas signed to play volleyball at the University of Pikeville. Cassidy has been a four-year volleyball player for the Rockets, spending three of those years on varsity. As an outside hitter, Cassidy recorded 605 career kills, ranking her 6th in program history. The consistency and trademark intensity she brought to the court helped lead the Rockets to two District championships and a remarkable run to the program’s first State Final appearance. Cassidy showed natural leadership on and off the court. For her efforts, she was recognized as the Offensive Player of the Year in 2022, and this season she was recognized as 2nd Team All District, 2nd Team All GCL, Southwest Ohio District All Star, All Academic recipient, Cincinnati.com Player of the Week nominee, and Player of the Match for Cincinnati High School Volleyball Rankings when the Rockets played CHCA.  

Logan Schmidt

Logan Schmidt signed to play softball at Alice Lloyd College. She has been in the lineup for the varsity Rockets the last two seasons. In her sophomore year, she led the Rockets with a .465 batting average and .566 on base percentage. In her junior year, she was second on the team in batting average and on base percentage. For her efforts, she was named to the 2nd Team GCL Coed and 2nd Team All-City for her sophomore and junior year seasons.  

Carson Zurmehly

Carson Zurmehly signed to play soccer at Ohio Northern University. Over the last four seasons, Carson has become one of the most decorated Rocket goalies in program history while also simultaneously kicking for the football team. In the last three seasons of his soccer career, he has led the GCL Coed in saves and, in two of those seasons, he was the top three leader in shutouts for the entire league. During his sophomore season, he earned honorable mention All-League and during his junior season, he was named 2nd team All-League and All-Southwest Ohio. For his senior season, he was awarded 1st All-League and All-Southwest Ohio, and Enquirer 1st Team All-Star. This season he was also an Enquirer Soccer Player of the week, the 2023 Rocket Award recipient, and the Team MVP.  

Athletic Director Drew Schmidt said, "We are grateful for the time these athletes have spent as Rockets and look forward to watching them take off in their future endeavors." 

 

    McNicholas Recognizes Academic Top Ten for the Class of 2026
    McNicholas High School proudly celebrates the Academic Top Ten of the Class of 2026, recognizing students who have demonstrated exceptional achievement in the classroom while making a lasting impact on the school community through leadership, service, and involvement.

    Natalie Cox, Josephine Fortin, Sarah Hutchinson, Grace McCafferty, Lauren Radtke, Allison Runte, Addison Russo, Kaelin Timko, Kennedy Trapp, and Annemarie Wolfer.

    Class of 2026 Shines at Arts Signing Day

    Yesterday, we celebrated our talented arts students during Arts Signing Day. The Class of 2026 includes seven students earning the Ohio Arts Honor Diploma, twelve students who studied art all four years at McNicholas, and nine students who will continue their education in an arts-related field. Congratulations to these talented young people!

    Jolene Esz Named AACC Teacher of the Year

    For Jolene Esz, teaching has never been just a job. It is a calling rooted in community, service, and a deep commitment to helping students grow. This year, that dedication was recognized in a meaningful way as she was named Anderson Area Chamber of Commerce Teacher of the Year.
