Sports Performance Director helps student-athletes excel

Sports Performance Director helps student-athletes excel

Coach Pete Collopy is building champions — on and off the playing field. Coach Pete brings diverse experience and talent to McNicholas as the school’s first Sports Performance Director.

The Sports Performance Program supports athletic development, student well-being, and peak performance of all our student athletes.

“My mission is to maximize athletic potential by building qualities that allow athletes to excel in their sport and carry the attributes beyond athletics,” Coach Pete said.

He is already making good on this mission. This past summer, an average of 113 student athletes used the weight room per day. Student athletes from every Rocket team participated in summer training programs and the girls’ off-season session was so big, the session was moved from the weight room to the auxiliary gym.

With the support our alumni, the Sports Performance Program added a fueling station, a jump mat to measure vertical jumps, and a timing system that measures top speeds. All of these additions support peak performance, while reducing the risk of sport-related injuries.

“Coach Pete is helping us take the next step forward toward athlete development, student success, and the building of champions inside and outside of competition,” said Drew Schmidt, Director of Athletics. “His background and wherewithal in Catholic schools, his professional experience, and his personality are a perfect fit for this community.”
