Seniors commit to college athletic programs

Written by Paula Zalar ‘21

During the fall National Signing Day, McNicholas recognized seniors Haven Dwyer, CJ Mullis, and Lauden Brooks who committed to playing collegiate softball, track, and baseball, respectively.

Dwyer, who committed to playing softball at Purdue University Fort Wayne as a pitcher, began playing softball when she was four. She fell in love with the sport at seven when she began pitching. “I’ve learned some of the most important life lessons in softball, and it has taught me things that I will be able to take to my job and anything that gets thrown at me in the future.”

Dwyer is very thankful to the McNicholas community and her teammates for getting her where she is. “I think my time [at McNick] has taught me how to be a leader and has helped me make relationships and made me step up…I think I’ll remember all the relationships I have built with teammates and even with opponents the most. I’ll definitely remember the toughness of the GCL.”

Mullis committed to running track at Mount Saint Joseph University, where he will be a sprinter. His time at McNicholas gave him many valuable skills that he can apply in college, and he said he is incredibly grateful for his teammates. “They have been there to cheer me on every step of the way,” Mullis said.

Brooks committed to playing baseball at the University of Kentucky in the shortstop position. Brooks is most looking forward to “playing in front of thousands of people in the best conference.” He attributes his achievements to his teammates, his coaches, Brian Conley, and his dad. “They push me to be my best every day,” Brooks said.

While Brooks received offers to play at other colleges, he ultimately chose the University of Kentucky. “I chose Kentucky, so I could see my dad and so that he could come watch me play every home game.”

Where Art Comes Alive: McNicholas Students Explore Italy, France, and Belgium

Some of life's greatest lessons cannot be found in a textbook. They are discovered standing beneath the ancient arches of the Colosseum, gazing up at masterpieces in Vatican City, or watching the sun set along the Seine River. This spring, 43 McNicholas students experienced those moments firsthand, returning home with a deeper appreciation for art, history, culture, and the world around them.

A Friendship Without Borders: McNicholas Celebrates Its First Sister School Exchange with Argentina

Nine McNicholas students traveled to Buenos Aires this summer for the school's first Sister School Exchange with Instituto Nuestra Señora de Las Nieves, building on friendships formed when Argentine students visited McNicholas earlier this year. Through living with host families, attending classes, and experiencing Argentina's rich culture and history, students discovered that the most meaningful lessons come from stepping beyond their comfort zones and embracing connections that transcend borders.
