Three-sport athlete wins State Wrestling Title

Three-sport athlete wins State Wrestling Title

Congratulations to senior wrestler Pierce Taylor who captured the Division 3 State wrestling title at 144 pounds.

Pierce is a stand-out on the mat, earning back-to-back GCL Coed Championships, Sectional Championships, and District Championships, as well as GCL Coed Wrestler of the Year titles. In 2021, Pierce placed third at State in the 138 weight class. Pierce went 35-1 this season, competing at state and national levels. 

In addition to wresting, Pierce is also a four-year, decorated football quarterback and baseball catcher, having earned all-league, all-city, all-district, and all-state honors. He is both an athlete and a scholar, having carried honor roll status throughout his high school career with an overall GPA of 3.9. He is a member of the National Honor Society, a McNicholas CREW Captain, and the McNicholas Student Body Vice President.

Athletic Director Drew Schmidt said, “Pierce embodies what makes McNicholas so special. Pierce's accomplishments and accolades at high levels in three different sports, his success in the classroom, and his role as a leader in our school and community show that McNicholas is a place ripe with opportunity. Pierce took those opportunities, added his exceptional work ethic, and achieved his goals. We are so proud to have been with him every step of the way.”

Mr. Schmidt said, “Pierce's legacy as a student athlete, but most importantly as a faithful leader and person, will live on at McNick, long after his career as a Ohio University Bobcat; he’s a prime example of why we love the McNicholas community.” 

He added, “Congratulations, Pierce! We are so very proud of you and your accomplishments.”

 “Pierce is the epitome of what we are trying to provide for student athletes at this school; come and do it all. Work hard and you’ll reap many rewards.”

    Where Art Comes Alive: McNicholas Students Explore Italy, France, and Belgium

    Some of life's greatest lessons cannot be found in a textbook. They are discovered standing beneath the ancient arches of the Colosseum, gazing up at masterpieces in Vatican City, or watching the sun set along the Seine River. This spring, 43 McNicholas students experienced those moments firsthand, returning home with a deeper appreciation for art, history, culture, and the world around them.

    Nine McNicholas students traveled to Buenos Aires this summer for the school's first Sister School Exchange with Instituto Nuestra Señora de Las Nieves, building on friendships formed when Argentine students visited McNicholas earlier this year. Through living with host families, attending classes, and experiencing Argentina's rich culture and history, students discovered that the most meaningful lessons come from stepping beyond their comfort zones and embracing connections that transcend borders.
