Senior recognized with Spirit of Dorothy Stand Award

Senior recognized with Spirit of Dorothy Stand Award

Congratulations to senior Bella Dawson who received the Spirit of Sr. Dorothy Stang Award for exemplifying Sr. Dorothy’s values, including outreach to others and care for creation.

Bella has been instrumental in the founding of the McNicholas diversity and inclusion group, Hands Across Campus, and active in interfaith gatherings at Imago, an ecological education organization. Bella also shows a dedication in her own life to sustainability and educates herself and her peers on ways to be ecologically proactive.

Theology teacher Ms. Teresa Davis said, “Bella has been a driving force of education, engagement, and encounter for our students at McNicholas. She is that go-to person for students with questions regarding diversity, inclusion, and how-to.”

Sr. Eileen Connelly, Assistant Director of the Archdiocese of Cincinnati Mission Office, presented the award during Bella’s theology class. Sr. Eileen spoke about the ministry of Sister Dorothy Stang that included solidarity with the poor, care for the earth, and love for Jesus’ mission.

Ms. Davis said, “Bella is well deserving of the recognition of having the spirit of Sr. Dorothy…she is deep, intelligent, empathetic, a problem-solver, and diligent. She has a heart for people and for the earth.”
