Rocket scientist recognized by Physicians Charitable Foundation

Congratulations to senior Erin McManus who was awarded the Junior Science Award from the Mercy Health – Anderson Hospital’s Physicians Charitable Foundation. Erin was awarded $1500 for her accomplishments and passion in the area of science.

"Erin always walks into a science classroom with questions on her mind and energy flowing," science teacher Mr. Jon Spurlock said. "She continuously works hard to understand the intricate and deep principles of her science course work and brings those key qualities to her group work where she engages herself into passionate discussions with her group members." 

Erin said, “I've taken 5 science courses in total, including AP Chemistry and AP Physics. I'm especially enjoying the AP Physics 2 independent study course I'm taking with Mr. Spurlock this year because it allows me to learn at my own pace.”  She added, “All of the science teachers I've had at McNick are truly passionate about the subject and want their students to be passionate as well.”

The Physicians Charitable Foundation (PCF) is a non-profit organization created and supported by physicians, including McNicholas Board Member, Dr. Rob Hiltz. In addition to supporting deserving students such as Erin, the PCF makes a donation to the McNicholas Science Department each year.
