McNicholas seniors to present at Capstone Symposium

McNicholas seniors to present at Capstone Symposium

All members of the McNicholas community are invited to the Capstone Symposium on April 27 at 7 p.m. to hear members of the Class of 2023 present their Social Justice Capstone Projects.

Over the past year, members of the Class of 2023 worked collaboratively to discern and implement a passion projects aimed at making a difference in the lives of others.

Under the guidance of an adult mentor and using the principles of Catholic Social Teaching as inspiration, students researched topics ranging from hunger and food insecurity to care for the elderly and from issues surrounding the foster care system to inclusivity in schools for those with disabilities. They explored ways to advance their causes both inside and outside of McNicholas, reached out in service to marginalized members of our society, and educated themselves and others about these important social justice issues.

Capstone Director and Chaplain Fr. Kevin Scalf, C.PP.S. said, "Our Capstone Program is an exciting initiative from the heart our school’s mission. It's inspiring to see our students working together over the course of an entire academic year on a topic they are passionate about, so the lives of others may be improved. Christ can transform hearts and actions through their good works and the principles of Catholic Social Teaching that permeate their projects."

The Capstone culminates with the evening Symposium on April 27 when groups present their learning in front of a public audience. A reception celebrating the brilliant work of these seniors will follow the presentations. All are invited to attend.
