Jolene Esz Named AACC Teacher of the Year

Jolene Esz Named AACC Teacher of the Year

For Jolene Esz, teaching has never been just a job. It is a calling rooted in community, service, and a deep commitment to helping students grow. This year, that dedication was recognized in a meaningful way as she was named Anderson Area Chamber of Commerce Teacher of the Year.

Now in her 14th year at McNicholas High School, Esz’s connection to the school runs deep. Not only has she built a career here, but it is also a place her family has called home. Her three children graduated from McNicholas in 2008, 2010, and 2012, continuing a legacy begun by their father, a member of the Class of 1976.

At McNicholas, Esz serves as the Department Chair for Technology and Business and leads the University of Cincinnati IT Early College Program. Through her leadership, students can earn a year of college credit while still in high school, opening doors to powerful futures. She also coaches two CyberPatriot teams, supports INTERalliance and TechOlympics, and is preparing a group of students to participate in TechExpo this April.

Colleagues say what sets Esz apart is not only her expertise, but her unwavering dedication to students. “Jolene has done an outstanding job building the UC IT program and the CyberPatriot program,” said Steve Dalton. “She has created a space where technologically inclined students feel safe, supported, and empowered to thrive.”

That impact extends far beyond the classroom. Esz is known for stepping in wherever she is needed, from assisting with school events to supporting faculty and students with technology. “When Jolene gets behind a project, she is 100 percent in,” said Chelsea Almer. “She is a tireless ally, detail-oriented, and an advocate for our students. McNicholas is lucky to have her.”

Outside of school, Esz continues to serve others as part of a therapy dog team with Pet Partners of Greater Cincinnati, volunteering regularly at the Ronald McDonald House and St. Elizabeth Hospital in Edgewood, Kentucky. She also helps evaluate new therapy dog teams and co-teaches an intermediate agility class at the Clermont County Dog Training Club.

Whether in the classroom, in the community, or alongside her students at competitions and events, Esz brings energy, compassion, and purpose to everything she does. Her recognition as AACC Teacher of the Year reflects the countless lives she has impacted and the example she sets each day.

Hearts Across Hemispheres: McNicholas Families Welcome Argentina Home

For five unforgettable weeks this winter, the hallways of McNicholas High School echoed with new voices, new laughter, and a new language. Our school made history by hosting our first-ever exchange students from Las Nieves High School in Buenos Aires, Argentina. In doing so, we discovered something profound. Home is not just a place. It is a feeling created by open hearts and open doors.
