Boys Volleyball earns OHSAA State Championship Title

Boys Volleyball earns OHSAA State Championship Title

Congratulations to the Boys Volleyball Team on their historic season winning back-to-back Regional Championships and the program's first ever State Championship!

"After a final 4 run last year, we looked for every opportunity to grow," said head coach Julie Mulvey. "The team grew together, and by the end of the season had built up a trust with each other on the court. All of our players stepped up to win the Championship, especially our senior Bryce Dillard and juniors Ethan Gundrum, Gavin Gerhard, Kevin Kaser, Ben Jones, Jay Clifton, Jack Sampson, and Carson Tierney."

The Rockets advanced to the OHSAA State Championship after defeating Fenwick and earning themselves the title of Division II Regional Champions for the second year in a row. They took down Independence in three sets in the semifinals and ended their season with a win over Columbus St. Charles in the state finals to become the 2024 OHSAA Division II State Champions!

This is the second season boys volleyball has been included as a sanctioned sport by the OHSAA Board of Directors and the 30th season the boys volleyball program has existed at McNicholas. Alumni and theology teacher Mr. Jeff Hutchinson-Smyth played on the inaugural team as a student and shared his excitement for the growth and success of the program: “The hard work that you have poured into this program fills me with a sense of Rocket Pride for what you have been able to accomplish that a generation ago we could only dream of.”

Congratulations to Bryce Dillard ‘24, Kevin Kaser ‘25, Jay Clifton ‘25, Gavin Gerhard ‘25, Sean O’Connell ‘25, Jack Sampson ‘25, Ben Jones ‘25, Carson Tierney ‘25, Michael Mindrum ‘25, Hayden Shelly ‘25, Ethan Gundrum ‘25, Ryan Moss '26, and Aydan Williams '26.
