2011 Grad encourages Science National Honor Society Inductees to pursue their passions

Congratulations to the 17 seniors who were inducted into the McNicholas High School chapter of the Science National Honor Society. These students have excelled in their classes and shown a passion for science-related fields: Cameron Goodin, Grace McCafferty, Caroline Frede, Allison Runte, Lauren Radtke, Sarah Hutchinson, Katherine Baillie, Brianna Lach, Gracie Mastruserio, Kaelin Timko, Natalie Cox, Annemarie Wolfer, Addison Russo, Kennedy Trapp, Lauren Beiser, Josephine Fortin, and Clare Goldbach. 

“You are all amazing science students, and, quite honestly, you are just amazing people,” science teacher Ms. Mary Dennemann shared. “You are leaders, athletes, artists, writers, and active participants in your journey to attain Full Stature in Christ. We are so proud of you.”  

Guest speaker Rebecca Weisshaar, McNicholas class of 2011, shared advice on falling in love with the process of learning and following the passions that light a fire inside you. Rebecca graduated from The Ohio State University with a bachelor’s degree in Psychology, minors in Spanish, Speech and Hearing Science, and a Clinical Doctorate in Occupational Therapy. She is a pediatric occupational therapist at Cincinnati Children's in Eastgate, where she primarily works with young children with developmental disabilities. 

Rebecca outlined her path to her career, beginning with her time spent in AP Biology at McNicholas, to switching majors in college, to paying attention to her interests after experiencing clinical rotations. She encouraged our students to “Learn how to learn - how to dive into curiosity and the spark of something new and exciting. Build skills and don't worry about the grade or reward that might be attached to them.” 

Rebecca concluded her address by challenging the honor society members to “be interesting by getting interested in the knowledge around you and follow the passions that light a fire in you.”
