The Rocket Marching Band has won four OMEA Grand Championships.
Be part of a close-knit, fun group of instrumentalists who meet inside and outside of the classroom to develop their musical talents.
Rocket instrumental ensembles are a popular co-curricular at McNicholas and include our Marching Band, Concert Band, Percussion Ensemble, Jazz Ensemble, Brass & Woodwind Ensemble, and Pep Band. Students can also participate in our Color Guard and Liturgy Choir.
All band students make up the Rocket instrumental ensembles. Most groups rehearse during the school day with the exception of the marching band which rehearses two days a week after school. Other after school rehearsals are determined by the performance schedule as it develops throughout the year. Students who play a fall sport can be exempt from the competition marching ensemble.
The Rocket Marching Band competes the Mid States Band Association and has been a perennial top ten finalist since 2001.
The Jazz Ensemble has performed at six university jazz festivals as well as at the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in Cleveland, Ohio.
The Percussion Ensemble has performed at the Ohio Percussive Arts Convention and the Percussive Arts Society International Convention.
The Rocket Marching Band has performed in the New York St. Patrick’s Day Parade, the D.C. Memorial Day Parade, and Bands of America events.
The McNicholas Chamber Ensembles have received many awards over the years, including Superior and Excellent OMEA ratings in 2020 and 2021.
