HSPT

The Archdiocese of Cincinnati requires all 8th grade applicants to take the High School Placement Test (HSPT).

The HSPT for 8th graders entering high school in the 2027-2028 school year will take place on Saturday,  November 21, 2026.  

All students register through the Archdiocese of Cincinnati's HSPT registration site, through Scholastic Testing Services (STS). Testing cost: $30. This site typically opens on August 1 each year.

Students may take the HSPT at any participating Catholic high school and indicate three schools in which to send their scores. The HSPT test at McNicholas begins at 8:15am and typically ends before noon (for those not eligible for accommodations).

HSPT results will be emailed to the parent listed on the registration form after 4:30pm on Friday, January 15, 2026. 

ACCOMMODATION REQUESTS: Students taking the test at McNicholas and requesting accommodations must indicate it on the registration form and submit their accommodation plan to McNicholas at admissions@mcnhs.org. We also require a signed approval form from the student's school administration.  Due date to request accommodations: November 7, 2026

HSPT Test Prep at McNicholas

McNicholas is offering test prep for the HSPT on the four Saturdays prior to the November 21 test. This 4-day course will focus on test-taking skills, strategies, timing, and content while reviewing the content covered in the five sections of the test: Verbal, Quantitative, Reading, Mathematics, and Language.
 
There is an optional and separate HSPT Diagnostic Test offered with an additional cost. Through a full length HSPT diagnostic test, students will receive a performance evaluation and independent study plan. This is an excellent opportunity for students to identify areas for improvement and refine their test-taking strategies for future success.
