Rockets step up as compassionate leaders

Senior Claire Crawford, junior Lauren Keith, and sophomores Carly Badylak, Shelby Highfield, and Carly Weidenbacher were appointed to the Cancer Free Kids Night for the Fight Leadership Team. Cancer Free Kids is a local non-profit organization that works with both Cincinnati Children’s Hospital and Nationwide Children’s Columbus to grant funding to pediatric cancer research. These Rockets will help plan the N4TF event, meet with pediatric oncology teams and current patients, and aid research teams with critical grants.

Student Council Moderator Jenni Tumser, said, “These five young ladies are empowered leaders inspired and driven by the need to supply ground breaking research for pediatric cancer. Their appointment to the leadership team is an accumulation of hard work and dedication to this important cause.”

Seniors Lainey Doggett and Bryan Maxey coordinated the Gifts for Hope gift drive this December.  Students, faculty, and alumni worked together to donate, wrap, and deliver 231 gifts to local teens in need.  The shoebox-size gift boxes included winter clothing, personal care items, and stocking-stuffers.  The gifts were delivered to Hope Emergency for distribution to neighbors in need. “I’m so grateful to our students and alumni for their generosity and hard work,” Tumser said.  “We encourage our students to become compassionate leaders, and their work on this gift drive is evidence of their growth.
