Architecture students begin study of weight/load distribution with straw structures

McNicholas High Schools architecture students started the year with a team project to design and create a straw structure that could hold the weight of several books.Straw_Contest_2016.jpg

“The students work on this project to better understand weight/load distribution and design as well the importance of team work, problem-solving, and critical thinking,” Mel Gaskins, McNicholas architecture teacher and chair of the art department, said.

The team of juniors Alexandria Battaglia, Isabella Daley, Brandon Fulmer, Skyler Lance and Brett Liming designed a structure that held 6 books, the most of any of the straw structures.
