St. Joseph Scholar Gracie Mastruserio selected to serve Hamilton County

The Hamilton County Commission on Women & Girls has selected senior Gracie Mastruserio from a competitive pool of candidates to represent Hamilton County residents in local policy decisions. 

The commission is focused on elevating the voices of women and girls in local public policy decisions, while creating leadership opportunities and pathways for civic engagement. Gracie is one of just ten high school girls picked to serve a one-year term on the commission in addition to 20 women. 

"I think its important to empower young women and girls to make sure everyone has a voice," Gracie said when asked about this opportunity. 

"Gracie will be a powerful member of this commission because she models all that is amazing about being a young woman by leading with compassion and integrity," English teacher, Mrs. Julie Dill, said. "She is passionate about women deserving respect and full equality."

Mastruserio finds inspiration from examples of strong female leadership in her own life including former Hamilton County Auditor and Ohio State Representative, Brigid Kelly. Kelly fought for women's health by eliminating taxes on menstrual products in Ohio, also known as the "pink tax", before her untimely passing in March of 2024 after a hard-fought battle with cancer. 

"Gracie is the whole package - she is self-aware, authentic, kind, empathetic, and academic," English teacher, Mrs. Angie Noble, commented. "She entered McNicholas as a St. Joseph Scholar, and she has continued to strive towards not only her own growth but the betterment of her community."

She is also involved in Hope Squad and CREW Leadership and has been a Kairos retreat leader during her time as a Rocket. Gracie would like to use this opportunity to, "bring the leadership skills I've gain from McNicholas and apply them to the broader community." 

"Gracie Mastruserio is a humble leader with great potential - a thinker beyond her years that is much needed in this world," Mrs. Noble added. "Not only will she learn from others, but others will learn from her."
