Cat Humphries Enquirer Athlete of the Year!

For the second year in a row, Cat Humphries was named Athlete of the Year for Track and Field by the Cincinnati Enquirer.  Cat was the top local scorer individually at the state meet with her 2 second place finishes (100 and 200 meter dashes).  Cat was also named honorable mention all city in the 4x100 relay and long jump.  Cat has had an outstanding 3 seasons so far at McNick!

Joining Cat on the honorable mention all city team were the following girls:  Dani O'Brien (100 and 200 meter dashes and 4x100 relay), Nettie McGee (4x100 relay, shot put, discus), Liz Scheidler (4x100 relay), Haley Fitzpatrick (300 hurdles), Lauren Clark (800 meter run), Rebecca Weisshaar (high jump)  Congrats to all of these girls for outstanding seasons!

Lady Rockets excel at the state meet.

Junior Cat Humphries snatched 2 state runner up finishes in the 100 and 200 meter dashes.  She missed out in a photo finish in the 100 and was clipped by the champion by less than 1/100th of a second.  She was nipped in the 200 meter dash by a mere .02 seconds!  Cat had another outstanding year. 

The 4x100 meter relay team ran an outstanding race on Friday to finish 3rd.  Their time of 49.3 tied the school record.  Liz Scheidler, Dani O'Brien, Nettie McGee, and Cat Humphries improved one place from the last 2 seasons.  Senior Dani O'Brien finishes her career with 3 trips to the award stand at the state meet.  Dani had a great career for the Rockets!

Sophomore Haley Fitzpatrick finished her incredible season with a 16th place finish in the state!  With around 500 entrants in the 300 hurdles to begin the tournament, Haley had a great season.  Her trip to the state meet will give her great experience for next season!

 

4 Events qualify to state!!

The girls track team had 4 events qualify to the state meet.  Cat Humphries won the region in the 100 meter dash for the 3rd consecutive year.  Her time of 12.23 was .03 seconds off of the regional record!  Cat also finished 2nd in the 200 meter dash to qualify for state for the 3rd straight year also.  The 4x100 meter relay team of Liz Scheidler, Dani O'Brien, Nettie McGee and Cat Humphries continued to lower their season best time as they continue to creep towards the school record.  Their time on Saturday of 49.5 was .2 off the school record set last year.  The relay finished 2nd and qualified to the state meet for the 3rd straight year as well.  Rounding out the qualifiers was Sophomore Haley Fitzpatrick who finished 4th in the 300 meter hurdles to qualify to the state meet.  Haley ran a personal best time of 47.8.

The boys 4x100 meter relay team of Joe Candito, Chris Brokamp, Ryan Crowley, and Joey Mink broke the school record!  After 2 straight races of tying the record, the boys raced their best ever in a time of 43.9.  This was good enough for a 6th place finish, but it did end their season

The schedule for Friday at Ohio State's Jesse Owens Stadium is as follows:

2:20 Cat in the 100 meter dash

2:50 Liz, Dani, Nettie, Cat in the 4x100 meter relay

3:20 Haley in the 300 meter hurdles

3:40 Cat in the 200 meter dash

The relay has to have one of the 8 fastest times from the 2 heats to qualify to the finals on Saturday.  The other events need to finish in the top 4 in their heat to qualify to the finals.

The final times on Saturday are:

1:10-100

1:50-4x100

2:10-300 hurdles

2:35-200

Good start to the regional meet

On Thursday evening in Dayton some events saw an end to their season and some events advanced to the finals on Saturday.  Freshman Rebecca Weisshaar finished the high jump tied for 6th.  She had an outstanding season.  The 4x800 meter relays also saw an end to their season.  The boys finished in 13th place with a time of 8:41.  The girls ran a season best time of 10:01 to come home in 8th place.  The girls 4x400 relay, Nettie McGee in the discus, Joe Candito in the 100 and Justin Feldmann in the pole vault all had their season's come to an end as well.  Congrats to all of those athletes on an outstanding season.

The Rockets will be very well represented in the finals on Saturday.  Nettie McGee, Sarah Hayes, and Tom Bachmann will all compete in the shot put, Joe Candito will high jump, Amanda Brown will pole vault, and Cat Humphries and Dani O'Brien will long jump.  Those field events all begin at 11:00.

The running finals begin at 12:00.  Cat and Dani will both run the 100 and the 200, both the boys and girls 4x100 meter relay teams will compete, Haley Fitzpatrick will run the 300 hurdles, Lauren Clark will run the 800 and Jeff Griffiths will run the 3200.

Girls District Champs! Boys runner-up! 24 events qualify to regionals!!

On Saturday, the girls team put the finishing touches on their second consecutive district title.  The girls team scored 149 points and qualified 16 events to regionals!  Cat Humphries and Dani O'Brien finished 1st and 2nd in the 100 and 200 meter dashes.  Freshman Lauren Clark won the 800 meter run and the 4x100 relay of Liz Scheidler, Dani O'Brien, Nettie McGee and Cat Humphries won as well.  Joining these events in Dayton is Haley Fitzpatrick in the 300 meter hurdles and the 4x400 relay of Colleen Kelly, Haley Fitzpatrick, Liz Scheidler, and Lauren Clark.

The boys team finished in 2nd place behind a very good Finneytown squad.  The teams total of 80 points gave the team their best finish at the district meet since 1999.  The team qualified 8 events to the regional meet.  Joe Candito won the 100 meter dash in a photo finish!  The people scoring at the finish line had actually picked Joe as the 4th place finisher, but the computer scoring and photo clearly showed that Joe's "lean" at the end gave him the victory.  The top 4 in that event were all seperated by .02 seconds.  Joe teamed up with Chris Brokamp, Ryan Crowley and Joey Mink to once again tie the school record in the 4x100 relay and advance to regionals.  Sophomore Jeff Griffiths continued his spectacular season by qualifying to regionals in the 1600 and 3200 meter runs.

Regionals are this Thursday and Saturday at Dayton's Welcome Stadium.  Thursday will be Justin Feldmann in the pole vault, Nettie McGee in the discus, Rebecca Weisshaar in the high jump and both team's 4x800 relays will all compete in finals starting at 4:00.  The sprints will have semi-finals on that day.

Saturday the meet begins at 11:00.  Nettie, Sarah Hayes and Tom Bachmann will throw the shot put, Joe will high jump, Cat and Dani will long jump, Amanda Brown will pole vault,  Jeff Griffiths will run the 1600 and 3200, Lauren Clark will run the 800 and the sprinters that qualify to the finals will all compete. 

 

A Record Day for the Rockets!!

On Thursday at Districts the team tied or set 3 records.  Junior Amanda Brown tied the school record in the pole vault with a clearance of 8' 6".  She finished tied for 2nd and qualifies to the regional meet next week.  The boys 4x100 relay team of Joe Candito, Chris Brokamp, Ryan Crowley, and Joey Mink tied the school record of 44.1 which was set in 1985 by the foursome of Schneider, Faulhaber, Montelisciani, and anchored by Chuck Kiser.  Cat Humphries also set a district record in the long jump with a leap of 17' 2".  She finished 1st in this event and qualified for regionals.  Dani O'Brien was a mere 3.75" inches behind Cat and also qualified to the regional meet.  Nettie McGee finished as the district runner up in both the shot put and the discus and will compete in the regional meet in both events next week.  Freshman Sarah Hayes finished 4th in the shot put and will join Nettie at the regional meet.  Another freshman, Rebecca Weisshaar, was the district champion in the high jump with a clearance of 5' 0" and the boys 4x800 meter relay team of Matt Johnson, David Loftus, Ian Anderson, and Jeff Griffiths were district runner up and qualify to regionals next week.

The running finals are saturday at 1:00 at New Richmond.

First day of districts is successful

On Tuesday the boys track team competed in the field event finals.  Justin Feldman finished 4th in the pole vault with a clearance of 11' 6"  Tom Bachmann finished 2nd in the shot put with a personal best throw of 43' 6" and Joe Candito set a personal best in the high jump with a clearance of 5' 10" to finish 3rd.  All 3 of these seniors qualify to the regional meet next week in Dayton.

The girls had their running prelims.  The 4x800 relay team of Colleen Kelly, Haley Fitzpatrick, Catherine Paquette and Lauren Clark ran a 10:19 to finish 4th and qualify to regionals.

On Thursday the boys will have their running prelims and the girls will contest their field events at 4:00 at New Richmond.

Boys keep pace with the girls with another GCL Central Title!

On Friday the boys captured their 2nd consecutive GCL Central title scoring 99 points and finishing 16 points ahead of Roger Bacon.  First team all league honors went to Justin Feldmann (pole vault) Joe Candtio (high jump, 100, 4x100), Tom Bachmann (shot put) Matt Johnson (4x800) Drew Valenzano (4x800) David Loftus (4x800) Jeff Griffiths (4x800), Jake Snyder (4x200), Chris Brokamp (4x200 , 4x100) Ryan Crowley (4x200 , 4x100), Joey Mink (4x200 , 4x100).  Second team all league honors went to Dan Rasfeld (pole vault), Timmy Meisman (4x400) and Dominic Ranieri (4x400)

Districts start this week.  Tuesday at New Richmond at 4:00 the girls compete in the 4x800 final and have all of their running prelims.  The boys compete in all of the field event finals.  On Thursday the teams switch and all of the running finals are on Saturday at 1:00.

Girls are GGCL Champs!

Yesterday in exciting fashion the girls captured the 10th GGCL title in  school history.  The team was lead by junior Nettie McGee who won the shot put and was runner up in the discus and was named "Athlete of the Year"  Joining Nettie on 1st team all league was junior Amanda Brown for winning the pole vault, Cat Humphries for winning the 200 meter dash, and the 4x100 relay team of Elizabeth Scheidler, Dani O'Brien, Nettie McGee, and Cat Humphries.  2nd team all leauge honors went to Colleen Kelly, Haley Fitzpatrick, Lauren Clark, and Rebecca Weisshaar and honorable mention all league goes to Catherine Paquette.

League week is off and running!

On Day 1 of the girls league meet, Amanda Brown won the pole vault, the 4x800 relay ran a season best time of 10:15, Nettie McGee finished 2nd in the discus, and our long jumpers finished 3rd and 5th!  Everyone qualified to the finals in the running prelims for today's finals!

Girls win CHCA Invitational, boys finish 4th

The girls team won 5 events en route to accumulating 156.5 points at the CHCA Invitational last night.   Event winners were Cat Humphries in the 100 meter dash and the long jump, Dani O'Brien in the 200 meter dash, Nettie McGee in the shot put and those 3 teamed up with Liz Scheidler to win the 4x100 relay.

The boys also had a very good meet.  The foursome of Joe Candito, Chris Brokamp, Ryan Crowley and Joey Mink ran a season best 44.6 in the 4x100 relay to capture first place.

Check out the results page for all placers results.  Today the JV squad will go to the Anderson JV meet and next week is our league championships.  The girls will be at the college of Mt. St. Joe's on Monday and Tuesday and the boys will be at LaSalle on Wednesday and Thursday.

Good Marks at Anderson!

With the end of season meets and tournament right around the corner, the Rockets are beginning to round into form for a nice tournament run.  The results for the Anderson meet are posted.  The varsity team will be at the CHCA Invitational this week on Tuesday and Wednesday and the JV will return to Anderson for their JV meet on Thursday. 

Monday May 12th begins league week with the girls traveling to the college of Mt. St. Joe's on Monday and Tuesday for their championship meet and the boys will go to LaSalle on Wednesday and Thursday.

Loveland Invitational continues the good performances for both teams

On Saturday the girls team finished 4th of 15 teams at Loveland and the boys were 7th.  The girls 4x200 relay of Liz Scheidler, Colleen Kelly, Haley Fitzpatrick, and Dani O'Brien brought home the gold.  The boys 4x100 relay of Jake Snyder, Chris Brokamp, Ryan Crowley, and Joey Mink did the same as well.

The jv team goes to St. X on Tuesday for a meet and the varsity team will compete in the Anderson Invitational on Thursday and Friday.

Milford Invitational sees some very good marks for the Rockets!

On Friday the boys and girls track team took on some very good competition at the Milford Invitational and put up some pretty impressive marks.  Check out the results page to see who scored in the meet.

This week the JV team goes back to Milford for their JV meet and the varsity will go to Loveland on Saturday.

"Put" Nettie McGee in the Record book!

At the Milford Invitational on Thursday, junior Nettie McGee established a new school record in the shot put.

Her toss of 35' 11.25" broke an 18 year old school record by 4.5".  The former record was held by Angie Fieno from the 1990

season.  Congratulations to Nettie on a great performance!

GGCL Relays

Saturday the Rockets competed in the GGCL Relays at Glen Este.  The team finished 4th of 8 teams.  The team won 3 events with the 4x100, the 4x200 capturing titles in the varsity competition and the jv 4x100 grabbing 1st place in their race. 

Both the boys and girls team will compete in the prestigious Coaches Classic meet this Wednesday and Friday.  The prelims on Wednesday are at Milford and the finals will be at Fairfield.  Both days the meet begins at 4:30

Tri-meet at Withrow

We finally had some good weather and the team traveled to Withrow for a tri-meet with Winton Woods.  Withrow has a fabulous facility and it is a great setting for a track meet.  Results are now posted.

2008 Season is underway!!

 

On Saturday the boys and girls team competed in the LaSalle Early Bird meet.  Both teams were the top division 2/3 teams at the very competitive meet.  There were some great performances for the first meet of the season.  Cat Humphries got her first win of the season capturing the 100 meter dash.  Nettie McGee nearly PR'd in the shot put with a toss of 32' 3".  Lauren Clark was very impressive in her first high school meet running a 2:38 and 65.7 in the 800 and 400 respectively.  Catherine Paquette broke 6:00 in the mile for the first time, and Haley Fitzpatrick had a very busy day and ran good times in the hurdles.

The boys team had some good performances as well as Joe Candito finished 3rd in the 100 with time of 11.5.  The 4x100 got off to a good start with an impressive 45.2.  Chris Brokamp had a good start to his high school career with a good long jump.  Sophomore Jeff Griffiths destroyed his own personal best time in the 3200 meter run with a time of 10:26 to finish 4th in an incredibly competitive field.

The Rockets travel to Withrow on Wednesday to compete in a tri-meet with the host team and Winton Woods.  The meet begins at 4:30.
