Boys Win All-Ohio Catholic!!  Girls finish 4th!

On Saturday, the boys team defeated a very good field at the All-Ohio Catholic championships in Kettering.  Jeff Griffiths, Drew Valenzano, and Matt Johnson all finished in the top 6 and all ran under 17 minutes for the first time.  The 53 points scored by the boys was 22 better than rival Badin.  It looks like it is shaping up for these two teams to have quite a few battles at league, districts and beyond.

The girls also ran very well, finishing 4th of 15 teams.  Rebecca Heise lead the team again followed closely by Maggie Daly and Rachel Wadell.  The girls 134 points were a mere 40 off the score from the first place team from Dayton Carroll.  The girls will get a couple more opportunities against Carroll at league and regionals.

Next week is an off week for the team.  Our next meet is October 4th at the Eaton "Ed Leas" Invitational.  More info will follow about times.

Another good showing at the Milford Invitational

On Saturday the boys team finished 4th of 23 teams at the Milford Invitational.  Junior Jeff Griffiths had his best finish of the season with a 4th place showing of 148 runners.  Matt Johnson finished 14th and Drew Valenzano 17th as the boys team was once again the top division 2 team at the meet.  The girls were lead by freshman Rebecca Heise with a 21st place finish of the 116 runners.  The rest of the top 5 came in shortly after her with Catherine Paquette finishing 33rd, Lauren Clark 41st and Rachel Wadell 42nd.  The girls team was 6th of 16.

This saturday the team goes to the prestigious All-Ohio Catholic meet in Kettering.  This meet is hosted by Dayton Carroll and has most of the top Catholic schools from the state entered.  The times for the races are 12:15 for the boys reserve, 1:00 the girls whole team will run in the varsity race and 1:45 is the boys varsity.

Both the Boys and Girls teams starting to come together!

Saturday at the Winton Woods Invitational both teams finished 3rd behind Lakota West and Anderson.  I really sensed the team coming together and the kids pushing each other throughout the race.  The course at Winton Woods is extremely tough and it is not a "pr" course, but the effort given by the team was very good.

Also, congratulations to Jeff Voegele who won the open race!

This week the team goes to the Milford Invitational.  The girls open is at 9:00 followed by the boys open at 9:30.  The varsity races are at 10:00 and 10:30 with the girls first.

Girls 4th and Boys 8th at Lebanon

The effects of our first week of practicing in the afternoon heat showed in the meet on Saturday.  Both teams competed extremely hard and battled mostly division 1 teams as the boys finished 8th of 20 teams and the girls were 4th of 15.  Next week the teams head to the Winton Woods Invitational.  The girls open is at 9:00 followed by the boys open at 9:45.  The girls varsity is at 10:30 and boys varsity at 11:15.  Check out the results page for individual times and places.

Both teams off to a good start at the Fairfield Invitational

On Saturday both teams finished as the top division 2 team at the Fairfield Invitational.  The boys team was 6th overall of 19 teams and the girls finished 10th of 15.  It was a good all around day for the Rockets.  Check out the results page for individual results.

The team goes to the Lebanon Invitational this Saturday.  The boys varsity race is at 10:30, girls varsity at 11:00, boys open at 11:45 and girls open at 12:15

The team welcomes Kyle Jepson to its coaching staff

Coach Jepson joins the coaching staff this year.  He also joins the faculty of McNicholas as a Spanish teacher.  We are very pleased to have him join us and look forward to his input on the team.  Kyle is a graduate of Lakota West and Ohio University.  We also say goodbye to Bill Valenzano who has taken a teaching position at Walnut Hills.  He is also going to be their head cross-country coach.  We thank Bill for his many years of service to the McNicholas community as a teacher and a coach.  He will still be around this year as a parent of one of our runners as Drew completes his senior year.
