McNicholas Celebrated 50 Years of Royalty The year, 2002, marked the 50th annual Mardi Gras, the most prestigious
student event of the year. The evening was steeped in tradition as Honor Guards
from the sophomore and junior classes as well as the Senior The highlight of the night was the announcement of the King and Queen. Adding to the luster of the evening, the entertainment this year was a procession of the Kings and Queens who reigned over the Krewes of McNicholas for the past forty-nine years. To celebrate the "Golden Mardi Gras," the activities were in the planning stages for a year and a half. The capacity crowd necessitated the provision of a simulcast in the school's cafeteria. 2002's Court was announced along with the declaration of the Maid of Honor and Captain. Maid of Honor Lindsey Barlag said, "This has been my favorite dance. Now it's even more special." Captain John Schuster, as well as Lindsey, felt very honored because this is the 50th anniversary of Mardi Gras at McNick and because they had the opportunity to meet members of previous royal courts. The Senior members of the Court were Stephany Barber, Sarah Bauer, Allison Cochran, Erin Cochran, Tess Hilgefort, Kate Kloppenborg, Julie Koumoutsos, Ashley Luken, Mara McCormick, Maria McPhail, Amy Morsch, Leah Moyer, Lynn Oberschmidt, Maria Pongonis, Andrea Randolph, Casey Ruberg, Emily Serger, Kathryn Suellentrop, Maggie Young, Michael Anslinger, Michael Atkins, Jeremy Boeh, Daniel Burridge, Anthony Calabrese, Brian Chrin, George Fels, Gregory Giesting, Geoffrey Hensley, David McClellan, Patrick McLaughlin, John Murphy, Matthew Reinhart, Andrew Rothmeeler, Thomas Russell, Nicholas Schmidt, Timothy Severyn, Bryan Westbrook, and Drew Zaugg. Junior Honor Guard members were Kimberly Burkhardt, Amanda Busch, Nicole Goetz, Danielle Poonoosamy, Evan Dreyer, Daniel Hayden, William Kindel, and Robert Straka. Sophomore Honor Guard members were Samantha Lammert, Elizabeth Langlois, Lisa Schultz, Elizabeth Suellentrop, William Gorman, Jeffrey Moore, Alex Petre, and David Sandmann.
