Course Objectives:
We shall:
 |
ground ourselves in
a solid understanding of the Christian Scriptures with special attention
to the four Gospels |
 |
explore the social,
religious, and political world of Jesus |
 |
get in touch with
the historical setting of Jesus’ life and proclamation |
 |
explore the
implications of Jesus’ message, ministry, for our lives |
 |
view Jesus through
the lens of early Christian disciples with special attention to Paul |
 |
develop an
understanding of the church’s relationship to Jesus through history |
Course of Study:
We shall seek deeper understandings of:
 | who we are as individuals |
 | our relationship with God |
 | our relationship with the Roman Catholic Christian Church |
 | how each of the above affects how we live our lives |
Class Expectations:
Self-respect and respect for others is essential for success in this
class:
"You shall love your neighbor as yourself" (Leviticus 19:18 and
Mark 12:31)
Grading:
Grades will be calculated regularly based on the following:
 | class participation (active listening and expression) |
 | assignments (homework and classroom assignments) |
 | assessments (quizzes and tests) |
Required Materials:
Each student will be expected daily to bring to class the following:
 | Assignment/Plan Book (supplied by school) |
 | Portfolio (1" 3-Ring Binder with pockets) |
 | Pen or pencil |
 | Textbook: Jesus of History, Christ of Faith (supplied by
school) |
In addition, each student is responsible for her/his own personal or
family Bible for the purposes of home study and assignments.
Christology
Schedule of Readings and Assignment Due Dates: Except where noted,
reading assignments can be found in the student text, Jesus of History,
Christ of Faith (JHCF). You will be responsible for reading each
section…Reading and writing assignments are due on the dates listed next
to them. Unavoidably, sometimes you will have reading and writing due on
the same day, but no one says you have to leave both until the last
minute. Read ahead if it helps you to manage your time.
