A. Grading -- Four major categories on point system. It is my judgment call here.

  1. Research Paper = 200 points

  2. Tests/Essays/Projects = 100 points

  3. Quizzes = 50 points

  4. Homework = 20-30 points

C. Literature Quarter by Quarter

  1. Quarter 1 -- The Scarlet Letter, 22 short stories, The Crucible

  2. Quarter 2 -- Huckleberry Finn, Ethan Frome, To Kill a Mockingbird, My Name is Asher Lev

  3. Quarter 3 -- Catcher in the Rye, The Color Purple, A Lesson Before Dying

  4. Quarter 4 -- Our Town, The Glass Menagerie, and Death of a Salesman

D. Writing Assignments

  1. Quarter 1 -- Personal narrative writing =  preparation for the EECAP test

  2. Quarter 2 -- Essay writing =  objective, analytical approach

  3. Quarter 3 -- Essay writing and Research Paper #1

  4. Quarter 4 -- Research Paper #2 and Wrap-up

E. Vocabulary -- quiz every other week / analogy expertise.

F. Grammar

  1. Pre-Grammar Test and Post-Grammar Test.

  2. A lot is covered here in preparation for PSAT, the ACT, and SAT.

G. Materials Needed:

  1. 3 subject notebook with pockets -- in class everyday.

  2. Pencils, pens, and your own paper -- in class everyday.

  3. daily planner -- in class everyday.

H. Additional reminders:

  1. Class begins with prayer when the bell rings; please be on time.

  2. Personal / business needs should be attended to before or after class, not during instructional time.

  3. Late essays / projects will be penalized eight points for each day late.

  4. Homework assignments are accepted only on the date due during your English period. No homework = 0%.

  5. Research dates are set in stone.

  6. If you are absent the day of the test, you will take the test the day you return to school in After-School Testing. It is your responsibility to see me immediately when you return about missed work /  assignments.

  7. No Gum, food, or drink is permitted in the classroom.

  8. No not talk while I am talking. This is rude and will not be tolerated.

  9. Feet must be on the floor.

  10. No hair combing /  putting on make-up during class.
