Serving God, Serving Others
Serving God though serving others is an exciting and integral part of who we are at Archbishop McNicholas High School. Many of our students report that the service they performed here has made a huge impact on the direction they chose in life and most go on to be lifelong people of service.
Community Service Program
Our Community Service Program seeks to challenge students to "attain full stature in Christ” by living out the Gospel values. All students are required to serve for at least 40 hours prior to graduation, but most far exceed that minimum requirement. A minimum of 20 hours must be completed prior to the end of a student’s sophomore year and an additional 20 hours must be completed in advance of the critical reflection and presentation of learning that students will complete during their senior year Social Justice course. Students must keep a record of their service hours on the Community Service Form. For the 20 hours of service that students complete during their last two years, they are required to step beyond their comfort zone and to serve the underprivileged by practicing the “works of mercy” in the spirit of Matthew 25. Service Club
Our Service Club is one of the most active and vibrant organizations on our campus. Our Service Club serves various agencies in the Greater Cincinnati area by sponsoring six school-wide projects each year.
The Student Philanthropy Project
The Student Philanthropy Project is a sub-group within the Service Club which focuses on giving, not only of time, but also of treasure. It is made possible by a generous donor who gives thousands of dollars each year to local high schools and universities with well developed service programs. Throughout the project, students investigate non-profit agencies through research and site visits. After a long investigative process, the students decide which agency they want to support with their allotted funds. The Philanthropy Project is a student-led group that is open to upperclassmen in the Service Club.
Century Club
The vast majority of McNicholas students go far beyond the required hours of community service. The honorary Century Club has been established to recognize those who do over 100 hours of service during their time at McNicholas. Membership in the Century Club will be determined by adding all service hours completed helping the underprivileged and no more than 60 hours of other kinds of service.
