Junior Day of Reflection

Juniors head out for a day away from school to the Milford Spiritual Center (MSC), a beautiful pastoral setting on 40 acres of land. MSC’s Youth Ministry Team creates and implements a unique retreat for our students. Juniors experience a day of reflection entitled “Exploring the Sacred” in which they tailor a part of their own day according to what they would like to investigate in the arenas of spirituality and prayer. For example: meditation, yoga, art, etc. The day also includes talks given by team members, small group discussion, and prayer services.

Sophomore Day of Reflection

Sophomores have the opportunity to attend a retreat off campus where the Campus Ministry team has planned and leads a day of reflection that is interactive, fun, and enlightening. Senior Peer Ministers from McNick as well as local youth ministers also help lead the day. The theme of Sophomore Retreat is “Who is My Neighbor.” This is implemented by exploring social justice and fostering a greater awareness of where we can further love and respect all our fellow humans. Experiences include large group activities, small group discussions, talks given by team members, reflection time, and a prayer service.

Freshmen Retreat

As Freshmen know well, beginning high school can be an exciting, stressful, confusing time. With this in mind, the Freshmen Retreat takes place at the beginning of the year so that the formation of a cohesive unified class can begin. The day takes place throughout our own McNick campus and is lead by Senior Peer Ministers as well as teachers. The theme of this day of reflection is COMMUNITY and the fact that each freshman student is called by God to be right here, right now. Students explore individuality and sharing their giftedness and uniqueness, as we all make up the Body of Christ. They also have the opportunity to get to know about the foundations and rituals of the Archbishop McNicholas community. The day includes large group activities and games, small group discussions, talks given by peer ministers, and liturgy. The goal is that they walk away from this day feeling that they have joined a loving community that is steeped in history, service, fun, and faith.
