Campus Ministry at Archbishop McNicholas High School invites all students, faculty and staff to become actively involved in helping to bring the Spirit of Christ alive in our community. At McNicholas we attempt to do this by creating opportunities and experiences in three main areas of ministry: liturgical and sacramental experiences, faith building experiences, and community service experiences.

CATHOLIC MUSICIAN JESSE MANIBUSAN PERFORMS AT MCNICK! Thursday, April 3, nationally renowned musician Jesse Manibusan will help our community celebrate the Easter season with a concert at 1 pm in the main gym!

**Ms. Dodds will come to all junior classes on Monday, April 21 to share information about Senior retreats such as Kairos, Appalachia, and Journey to Justice. Retreat preference forms will be due May 1st.

Liturgical and Sacramental

The liturgical and sacramental segment of Campus Ministry is designed to allow students the opportunity to experience the love of God through Catholic sacramental services and Eucharistic liturgies. Our students participate as Eucharistic ministers, lectors, servers and members or our liturgy choir. If you are interested in any of these ministries, please see Ms. Dodds!

Y.E.S...Y.outh E.xercising the S.pirit, is the liturgy committee of students which gathers to creatively enhance and prepare for McNick's prayer services and liturgies. Anyone is welcome to be a part of this club!

Liturgical Schedule For 2007-2008

 

Faith Building

Students experience the love of God and the love of others during prayerful times away from the normal school day and extracurricular activities. For students in the ninth, tenth and eleventh grades, participation in Days of Reflection and Renewal are part of their schedule.

Seniors will participate in either a Kairos retreat or Appalachia retreat. They may also choose the new weekend retreat, Journey to Justice.

We now offer an opportunity to go to Louisiana for hurricane relief efforts with the organization Habitat for Humanity. Juniors apply to go the summer before their Senior year. You can find more information at Mr. Hutchinson-Smyth's website.

Kairos is a religious retreat program grounded in Catholic incarnation theology. It is our Christian belief that God is very much a part of the real world, especially through the continuing presence of Jesus Christ. Kairos is an experience of a Christian community.

Appalachia is a group volunteer program sponsored by the Glenmary Home Missioners. It is designed to give young people an opportunity to experience mission by building Christian community and reaching out to the local people in the area of the Appalachian Mountains near Vanceburg, Kentucky.

Community Service

The Community Service Program at McNicholas High School is designed to challenge our students to "Attain" full stature in Christ," by building the gospel value of service to the "least of those." All students are required to complete at least 40 hours of service to the community (20 by the end of Sophomore year, 20 by the end of Senior year.) The first twenty are allowed to be performed at the school or parish. The rest is to be done in the wider community with an agency working with the underprivileged. Most students choose to do all of their service with the underprivileged and most do well over the minimum requirement of 40 hours. The "Century Club" (100 + hours of volunteer service) has been established to both recognize our students and to encourage them in social ministry.

Service Club is one of the most  active organizations at McNicholas High School. School wide programs offered through Service Club include:

	Turkey Dinner collections for the Contact Center.
	Christmas Gifts for Teens for the Millvale Community Center.
	Coat/Sweater Drive for St. Vincent de Paul.
	Penny Drive for Inner City Catholic Schools.
	The St. Patrick's Day Senior Prom at SEM Haven.

Community Service is an integral part of our students comprehensive education.
