Accomplishments

2010-2011

  • 100% of seniors who took the AP Literature and Composition exam scored a 3 or higher. One-third of them earned the highest possible score of 5.
  • Sarah Nimmo ('11) and the 2010 Countdown were featured in Jostens Look Book, a national publication recognizing excellence in yearbook design.
  • Samuel Cardosi ('11) was selected from hundreds of applicants all over the world to earn an honorable mention in the Ode to Olympians Writing Contest.
  • Jennifer Taylor ('11) won a third place prize in best-selling author James Patterson's Book Dollars for Scholars writing contest.
  • Danielle Lynd ('13), Micaela Taylor ('13), Gabriella Camacho ('12), and Courtney Dunne ('13) participated in the 2011 English Speaking Union National Shakespeare Competition. The winner was Courtney Dunne.
  • Kristen Rehl ('14) won first place in the “Living Saint” writing contest, sponsored by Catholics United for the Poor.

 

2009-2010

  • Nineteen of our journalism students attended the High School Journalism Institute at Indiana University and six won yearbook spread design awards, including the Best Portfolio Award.
  • 96% of seniors who took the AP Literature and Composition exam scored a 3 or higher.
  • Anna Bloemer, Lauren Bridges, Gabriella Camancho, & Courtney Dunne participated in the English Speaking Union National Shakespeare Competition. The winner was Gabriella Camancho.
  • Jillie Bloemer ('10) and the 2009 Countdown were featured in Jostens Look Book, a national publication recognizing excellence in yearbook design.
  • Our literary journal, Reflections, received an Excellent Rating from the National Council of Teachers of English.
  • The McNicholas Milestone and Countdown received Bronze ratings at the Tech Olympics Expo 2010.

2008-2009

  • 100% of sophomores passed the 2009 Ohio Graduation Reading and Writing Tests.
  • 92% of seniors who took the AP Literature and Composition exam scored a 3 or higher.
  • Eleven of our journalism students attended the High School Journalism Institute at Indiana University and three won yearbook spread design awards. Jillie Bloemer won 1st place for design and Maggie Daly and Molly Dirr won 2nd place in design.
  • The 2008 Countdown was featured in Jostens Look Book, a national publication recognizing excellence in yearbook design.
  • Our literary journal, Reflections, received a rank of Excellent in the 2008 National Council of Teachers of English (NCTE) Program to recognize excellence in student literary magazines.
  • Received Creative Communication’s Poetic Achievement Award
