Scholarship Opportunities for Incoming Freshmen
Academic Scholarships
Academic Scholarships for incoming freshmen are awarded based on the results of the High School Placement Test given on Nov.23, 2013. In order to be considered for McNicholas scholarships, students must take the test on this date, mark Archbishop McNicholas High School on the testing form, and complete an application for admissions. The make up test date for scholarship consideration at McNicholas High School is Monday, December 2. Scholarship recipients MUST take honors courses while enrolled at McNicholas and must maintain an unweighted grade point average of 87.5. Alumni Scholarship
One student in the incoming freshman class is awarded an Alumni Association Award. An Archbishop McNicholas High School alumni parent or grandparent must sponsor the applicant. The Scholarship Committee looks for students who demonstrate leadership and commitment to academics. The award is valued at $500. Application deadline is November 26, 2013 and includes one teacher recommendation. Apply online here.
Military Memorial Scholarship
Four students in the incoming freshman class are awarded a Military Memorial Scholarship. Based on the application, the committee will choose the four students who demonstrate leadership, commitment to academics and can demonstrate a sincere sense of patriotism via an essay, which is part of the application process. Those candidates who are part of a military family will be given special consideration. Another criterion for choosing the recipient is financial need. If financial need is part of your application, please complete the PSAS from by November 16, 2013. The award is valued at $1500. Scholarship Opportunities for Current Students
Current students are encouraged to apply for the following scholarships. Scholarship award winners will be announced during the Academic Awards Ceremony in May. The application and all recommendations are due on Friday, February 14, 2014. Scholarship applications must include all required documents to be considered.

Alumni Association Awards
This award is given to one freshman, sophomore or junior whose parent or grandparent is an alum. ($500)
Ann Robinson Memorial Nursing Scholarship
This is given to a graduating senior who will enter a four year Nursing (BSN/RN) program in college. Selection criteria includes academic performance, service, and character. ($500)
Bill Fanning Performing Arts Scholarship
This scholarship was established in honor of Bill Fanning, a longtime teacher at McNicholas High School, who in addition to teaching, had a love for the performing arts. It will be awarded to two students in their sophomore or junior year who have participated in any performing arts program at Archbishop McNicholas High School. ($500)
Hole in the Wall Gang Scholarship
The scholarship will be awarded to a junior who is involved in McNicholas High School athletics, demonstrates outstanding effort in athletics and academics, exemplifies Christian values and leadership, and enriches the McNicholas community. ($500)
James Scanlon Memorial Excellence in Math Scholarship
The scholarship will be awarded to a freshman who exemplifies the ideals of Christian leadership, the spirituality of Archbishop McNicholas High School, and is an active student participant in the Mathematics Department. ($1000)
Jeffrey A. Smith Memorial Scholarship
The scholarships will be awarded to two juniors (one male and one female) who are involved in McNicholas High School athletics and exemplify the ideals of Christian leadership. ($500)
Kelly Clark Memorial Theatre Arts Scholarships
The scholarships will be awarded to two juniors who exemplify the ideals of Christian leadership and the spirituality of Archbishop McNicholas High School and who actively participate in the Theatre Department. ($750 each)
Lt. David Wolfangel Memorial Scholarship
The scholarship will be awarded to a senior who intends to enroll in a program of advanced study in fire service, paramedics or affiliated field such as nursing, medical field, or public safety (law enforcement) and has exceeded the required service hours at Archbishop McNicholas High School. ($1200)
Nick Erdy Scholarships
The first scholarship is to a senior who demonstrates a Christian attitude and leadership. ($2,000)
The second scholarship will be awarded to a sophomore or junior who demonstrates financial need, a Christian attitude and demonstrates leadership. ($1,500)
Rosemary Vassolo Scholarship
This scholarship in memory of Rosemary Vassolo, mother of Mrs. Valerie Combs, English teacher, will be awarded to one freshman each year who exemplifies Christian ideals and dedication to Archbishop McNicholas High School. The freshman must be in good academic standing and enrich the McNicholas community. In addition to an application, this scholarship requires the applicant to write a personal essay answering the following question: Describe an inspirational person in your life who shows courage, strength and fortitude in his or her daily life. Show how that person has touched your life and helped you become who you are. (500 word maximum) ($500)
Saint Joseph Christian Service Scholarship
The scholarship will be awarded to a junior who exemplifies the ideals of Christian leadership and the spirituality of Archbishop McNicholas High School and who participates in community service work within the school and the community. ($1,500)
Saint Thomas More Scholarship
This scholarship will be awarded to a junior who exemplifies the ideals of Christian leadership and the spirituality of Archbishop McNicholas High School and who participates on the Mock Trial/Debate Team. ($1,500)
