PTSA...

Dear McNicholas Community,
On behalf of the McNicholas High School Parent, Teacher,
Student Association (PTSA), we would like to welcome you to the
2008-2009 school year. This year continues the exciting journey of
improvements and changes to the physical environment, facilities,
educational and extracurricular opportunities that the school began
last year. Equally exciting is the welcoming of our new principal
into our community. Time moves quickly as well as the progress
around us. Watch closely as McNicholas continues to grow and
improve! The PTSA is off to a busy start for this school year,
meeting both in June and July (usually our summer break too) to
assure that we are on our way to a successful year. We are eager to
share that feeling of excitement and commitment with each and every
family at McNick. We continue to strive to grow and improve upon our
activities that support our mission of promoting the spiritual,
emotional, physical, and social welfare of all McNicholas students.
ALL parents, teachers and students at McNick are automatically
members of the PTSA and ALL will receive a copy of the Rocket Line,
(directory of families). While there is a permanent PTSA Board
comprised of members that meet monthly, we would like to encourage
your participation and communication in school activities as well.
PTSA does not collect membership dues per se but please consider
making a donation and participating in our monthly raffle. (See
handouts!) Dues, raffle monies and funds raised working the Bengal
home game kitchen are the primary sources of our funds to support
the students’ activities listed in the handouts.
Every year the PTSA, in cooperation with school administration,
sponsors the publication of this school calendar and the Rocket
Line. We continue to included e-mail addresses in the Rocket Line
and hope they help to improve communication.
Some of the major activities sponsored by PTSA include Rocket
Shop, After Prom, Father/Daughter Dinner Dance, Mom Prom, Father/Son
Breakfast, and Mother Daughter Breakfast, just to name a few. We
are the fundraising group for these activities as well as
fundraising for school technology purchases (~$20000/year) and other
major school purchases. During 2007-2008 school year, the PTSA
purchased teachers computers and new administrative software
including the upgrade to Edline, Gradequick Web.
We continue to contribute to the funds for the ceramic’s kiln (new
door), as well as sponsored 6 PTSA scholarships for McNicholas
students. As you can see we are busy and committed to our school and
its students and staff. We sincerely hope you will participate on
some level.
Our largest fundraiser continues to be working a kitchen at
Bengal’s home games and we are counting on everyone to work at a
game this year (40 volunteers needed each game). We made
approximately $14,000 last season! Without the commitment of our
PTSA members (all McNick parents, teachers and families) to
work these games, we would not be able to accomplish as much as we
do so please check out the schedule of Bengal home games and other
volunteer activities and sign up to help! Thanking you in advance
