Guidance Services Calendar...

August—
- 9th Grade Parent Information Night

Making High School Count, an interactive program designed to orient 9th grade students to high school.

9th Grade Parent Orientation

 

September—
-
Group Guidance with grades 9, 10, 11, and 12 to work on goals and plans for the year.
- Introduce PrepHQ
- Continue work with seniors on college search selection, preparation of applications.

 

October—
- PSAT given to every 10th and 11th grade student.
-
PLAN testing for each sophomore.
- Future Focus Days for juniors and seniors offering the chance to meet with over 80 post high school options including colleges, universities, proprietary schools and the military.

 

November—
- McNicholas OPEN HOUSE for prospective students.

 

December—
-
Placement testing for prospective 9th grade students.
- Return and explanation of PSAT results to sophomores and juniors with introduction to College Board’s MyRoad.

Financial Aid Instruction/Information Evening for senior parents.

 

January—
- Financial Aid Focus groups with seniors.

Evening with Sophomore Parents to explain PSAT and PLAN.

Gather input from 8th grade teachers about student placement

 

February—

Freshman Registration sessions with each incoming 9th grader and his/her family.

Parents as Partners, a post-high school option planning evening for junior parents.

 

 

 

March— 
- Career Planning Project with sophomores using PLAN results.  - Introduction of the Career Shadowing project.

Jesuit Excellence Tour, @15 Jesuit colleges/universities on the McNicholas campus for student and parent information sharing.
- Individual scheduling of each underclass student for the next school year.
- Introduce PrepHQ, an inter-active college/tracking service to students.
- Coordinate the administration of the Ohio Graduation Tests

 

April—
- McNicholas Career Day (held on alternate years) to allow underclassmen to meet with alumni and others to learn about real jobs in the real world.

Making College Finances Count, an evening program geared to parents at all levels to introduce and explain Financial Aid and options to prepare for college costs.

 

May—
- Contribute to the Awards Programs for underclassmen and seniors.
- The Junior Packet, a joint venture between Guidance and the English Department that helps students prepare resumes, cultivate recommendations, and narrow plans 
for post-high school options.
