The Grand Tour of Spain
Summer 2004
12 McNicholas High School students went on the Grand Tour of Spain with Miss
Dietz this summer. It was a 17 day tour that visited Madrid, Segovia,
Bilbao, Burgos, San Sebastian, Pamplona, Barcelona, Valencia, Costa del Sol,
Sevilla, Granada, and Cordoba.
Students were able to:
| Practice their Spanish in many circumstances such as ordering meals, shopping for souvenirs and exchanging money. | |
| Taste Spanish dishes such as paella, gazpacho, flan and caracoles (snails!). | |
| See a live flamenco performance in Sevilla. | |
| Visit the Prado and Guggenheim Art Museums. | |
| Venture through castles, palaces, bullrings. plazas, cathedrals and monasteries. | |
| Stand before the tombs of Christopher Colombus, El Cid, Santo Domingo and Francisco Franco. | |
| See relics of saints such as Saint Vincent. | |
| Take a boat ride through Sevilla's scenic Guadalquivir River. | |
| See endless fields of olive trees and sunflowers. | |
| Hear the chanting of Gregorian monks during mass. | |
| Stand before the Holy Grail | |
| Understand why many Spaniards due to the heat of summer take siestas from 2:00-4:00 p.m. | |
| Use "abanicos" or Spanish fans to cool themselves especially in Sevilla. | |
| See windmills and statues of Miguel de Cervantes, Don Quijote and Sancho Panza in la Mancha. | |
| Spend time on the beach of San Sebastian | |
| Swim in the Mediterranean Sea in Costa del Sol. | |
| See Roman ruins such as the aqueducts. | |
| Travel through the breathtaking Sierra Nevada Mountains. | |
| Walk the streets where the bulls run in Pamplona and much more! |
