Philosophy
The acquisition and understanding of the English language is
essential to all students of McNicholas High School. The ability to
form meaningful and effective communication in both the written and
spoken word is vital to all members of a Christian community. The
English Department of McNicholas has the unique responsibility of
helping students enhance those language skills which are imperative
to a productive member of society. Students who are confident in
these skills will be better able to deal with the challenges and
complexities of the modern world. The English Department hopes to
expand the capacities of the human intellect and encourage students
to be critical thinkers, perceptive and sensitive to their
surroundings. Christian values will pervade the teaching of
language and literature in an attempt to deepen in students a desire
to live their Christian faith.
