Business/Technology Department Course Descriptions
COMPUTERS AND
TECHNOLOGY
This one semester
course is designed as an introductory course in the area of computer
hardware and software usage. Topics include keyboarding, Internet
usage, Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel, and Microsoft PowerPoint.
After completing the course, students will have a working knowledge
of computer hardware and software and will be able to apply this
knowledge throughout all of their courses.
Web Design
This course
provides an introduction to Web design. Topics include an
introduction to the environment and the tools, Web publishing
fundamentals, planning a successful Web site, typography and
graphics, multimedia and interactivity on the Web, and testing,
publishing, marketing, and maintaining a Web site.
VIDEO EDITING
This one semester
course is designed for the creative student who is interested
learning basic motion video and video editing using Adobe Premiere
Pro 2.0. Students will produce individual and group videos.
ADVANCED SOFTWARE APPLICATION
As a student in
this course, you will learn the most important topics of Microsoft
Office 2003. You will begin with advanced Word 2003 topics. Next,
you will learn advanced Excel 2003 topics, followed by advanced
Access 2003, and PowerPoint 2003 topics. You will also learn
introductory Outlook 2003 and FrontPage 2003 topics. This course
will prepare students to complete projects
used in business, college, and personal life.
INTRODUCTION TO BUSINESS:
This is a one
semester introductory business course that familiarizes students
with the business world. Topics covered include consumerism,
banking, credit, insurance and our economic system. Practical topics
such as checking and income tax are also covered. Students will
also solve common business problems in a workbook on the text.
ACCOUNTING
Accounting will
enable a student to develop the proper background to advance in the
business world. Included in the course are procedures to open and
keep a set of books, prepare financial statements, work with payroll
transactions, be knowledgeable in corporations and single
proprietorships as a form of business organization, and learn proper
income tax requirements. Students will practice manual accounting
procedures.
INTRODUCTION TO
COMPUTER PROGRAMMING I
This course
covers essential concepts in computer programming utilizing Visual
Basic and C++. Topics include, but are not limited to: algorithms,
flow of control, loops, conditions, “if-then-else” selections
structure, loops, functions, arrays, sorting, menus, objects,
graphical interfaces, and program structure and design.
AP PROGRAMMING
This course is
designed for the student who wants to major in a computer related
discipline in college or is very interested in programming and wants
to earn credit for college. Based on the AP curriculum, the topics
and the case study in this class will be geared toward successful
completion of the Advanced Placement Test.
